The ecological ideas and thoughts are prehistoric
and references can be traced back to the era of our Indian writings such as
puranas, Vedas etc defining different ecological thoughts and described by
Chakra in a way that how the plant life is regulated by Jala (water), Vayu
(air), Time and Desha (topography). Scientists like Aristotle, Hippocrates etc
and philosophers evidenced the effects of geographical distribution or pattern
on the habitat of plants and animals, in their writings on natural history.
The effects of direct interactions between species
to its environment differ from the effects of population of organisms to their
surrounding as web of interactions are present in the later condition.
Ecological studies are based on three basic principles: Habitat, Taxonomic group and levels of organizations.
Depending upon the consideration of ecological unit as either individual or
group of organisms, the levels of organization is divided into autecology and synecology.
